Atlantooccipital assimilation ; A Case Report

Abstract
Objectives : To describe a are case of atlantooccipital assimilation and to review the current literature regarding atlantooccipital assimilation.

Methods : A retrospective chart review was performed. And cervical spines were analyzed with plain radiography, compared to normal control.

Results : A 72-year-old male patient presented with traffic accident history and radiographical atlantooccipital assimilation without fracture or dislocation.

Conclusions : Because of atlantooccipital assimilation is a rare lesion in the cervical spine, in cases of the neck pain with radiologic finding of invisible of the atlas of the cervical spine due to traffic accident, history taking, physical examination and radiologic evaluation were done throughly, because of the differential diagnosis with fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine.
